How it works
- Claim your listing. Find your business in the directory, press “Claim this listing” and tell us how you’re connected. We review within two business days.
- Add the badge to your website. Your dashboard gives you a copy-paste embed code. Footer or About page is the usual spot; any site builder’s HTML block works.
- Press “check my website”. We look for the link, confirm it, and switch on the benefits immediately.
What you get
- A followed link back. Every listing links to its website, but for verified businesses we remove the
nofollowattribute so the link counts toward your site’s own search ranking. - Priority placement. Verified listings appear ahead of unverified ones on every neighborhood, category and directory page.
- A trust mark customers recognise. Your listing says the details are maintained by you, and your site says you’re on the borough’s directory.

Does it cost anything?
No. Claiming, editing and the badge are free. Featured placement is a separate, optional paid tier and is not required for any of this.
What exactly do I get?
Two things. Your listing’s link to your website becomes a followed link (we drop the nofollow attribute), which counts toward your own site’s search ranking. And your listing sorts ahead of unverified businesses on every neighborhood, category and directory page — only paid featured listings sit above it.
Where should the badge go?
Anywhere on your site. Footers are ideal because they appear on every page. We check your homepage first, then your About and Contact pages.
Do I have to use the badge image?
No — any plain link to your listing URL counts. The badge is just the easiest way to add one and it tells your customers the details on LocalBrooklyn are kept current by you.
How long does verification take?
Seconds. After you publish the badge, open your listing in the dashboard and press “check my website”. We fetch your site and confirm the link right then.
What if I remove it later?
We re-check weekly. If the link is gone, the followed link and priority placement are removed until it comes back. Your listing itself stays exactly as it was.
