A directory of Brooklyn businesses, neighborhood by neighborhood, built on public data.
LocalBrooklyn collects the businesses, guides and civic data for one borough and puts them in one place. Every listing belongs to a neighborhood and exactly one category, so you can go from “coffee in Greenpoint” to an address in two clicks.
Where the data comes from
Business details are enriched from the Google Places API. Categories are mapped from Google’s raw place types onto our own taxonomy using a mapping table an editor controls, with a local AI model filling gaps for types nobody has classified yet.
The 311 widgets on neighborhood and business pages come from NYC Open Data, queried live and cached for an hour.
Why it updates slowly
The whole site runs inside free tiers — Cloudflare Pages, D1, R2 and Workers AI. External API calls are metered by a daily allowance stored in the database, so the directory fills in gradually rather than burning a month of quota in an afternoon. An admin can raise or lower that allowance without a deployment.
Listings
Free listings are open to any Brooklyn business. Submissions are reviewed by hand before they appear. Paid listings sort above free ones and are marked as featured — we never hide that a listing is promoted.
Corrections
Business details change constantly and public data lags reality. If something here is wrong, claim the listing and fix it.
